eBook cover: how to create your ebook cover

A realistic and professional ebook cover can do wonders for your ebook sales.

I have heard one internet marketer claimed that his ebook sales increased 300% since he put cover for his ebook . I don't know if that's true or not, but I do know that it will increase your ebook sales.

I think people is attracted by a good cover just like in the physical world. I know I am. Sometimes, when I am just wandering around in a bookstore, my eyes are usually attracted to books with good cover. I will at least pick it up and scan the content. Subconsciously, I believe, we associate good cover with good quality content.

The same goes for ebook.

When you have a nice and professional cover, people will have a better perception for the quality of your ebook.

So, how can you create a nice, well designed and professional ebook cover?

Two Ways to Create Ebook Cover

There are two basic ways to create your it.

First, you can create it yourself by using an ebook cover software like Virtual Cover Creator

Second, you can hire a professional ebook cover designer to do it for you. One of the best-known cover designer is Vaughan Davidson of KillerCovers.com and you can see why when you visit his site .

Which ways you choose is totally up to you. But, here are two things you need to consider:

* Your graphic design skill.
Do you consider yourself to be artistic? Even though most software like eCoverGenerator provides professionally designed templates, you still need a good sense of art and graphic design know-how to make decisions about your cover layout - what fonts to use, where to put the title and so on and so forth.

* Your ebook price.
How much are you going to charge for your ebook? If you are going to distribute yours as a free ebook, then you should create your own. It doesn't make sense to spend lots of money if you're going to give them away for free. I think you can still getaway with creating your own cover when you are selling your ebook for $20 to $30. However, if you are going to sell your ebook for more than $40 or even $100, you better hire a professional like Vaughan to design yours. Vaughan's service is not cheap, but his designs are world class. While Vaughan is my favorite, there are other good designers out there and you can find them below.
Okay, if you made the decision to create it yourself, here are some tools and resources that I recommend:

Tools and resources you can use

Ebook Cover Softwares

Virtual Cover Creator 2.1 ebook cover software  (This is my favorite)
Virtual Cover Creator allows you to download a fully functional version. Cool! I love playing around and designing with this software. Why don't you give it a test drive here. (They let you download it for free and give it a good grilling)

eCoverGenerator
eCover Generator has the reputation for being the first.You get professionaly designed templates with the software. It's easy to use. The downside - you cannot try them out before you buy. Sorry...

eCover3D
eCover3D gives you a chance to try them out by offering a fully functional trial download.

Scott's Box Shot Maker (Free/Donationware)
It's free, but please donate if you like the software. This is the one I use to design covers for my free ebooks. I find it to be sufficient, but obviously not as sophisticated as the paid software listed above.

If you decide to hire a pro designer, than you simply cannot go wrong with these guys (and gals of course ;-))
